Atman is real self and is totally indifferent to its appearance in the form it attains on the cord of life. Body is just a carrier to it; limitation of body is its greatest bondage in life but.

Liberation

Liberation is very different subject that divides self into three, first is the liberation from the undue attachments that cause indifference to the peace, and second is the liberation from embodiment of the body one bear with and lastly it is liberation from the individuality or the identity as being soul.

Ego is the prime cause of bondage, inclination towards I-ness results in manifestation of spirit from supreme, after disassociation one needs tangible support to carry on with that gets body which further adds to ego then deeds to prove self immense one in the ocean of ego.

Indeed one can experience peace and bliss in life itself through appropriate adoption in life style and deeds but those last very short, if one wishes to experience the ocean of bliss that never ending pace of bliss than it is liberation alone.
